Himachal Day, observed on April 15 every year, marks the foundation of Himachal Pradesh as a province of India in 1948. This day commemorates the unification of 30 princely states into one administrative unit, laying the groundwork for the beautiful and prosperous state we know today.

After India’s independence, Himachal Pradesh was declared a Chief Commissioner’s Province on April 15, 1948. It later became a Part C state in 1950, followed by its designation as a Union Territory in 1956. In 1966, Kangra and other hill areas of Punjab were merged with Himachal Pradesh. Eventually, on January 25, 1971, Himachal Pradesh achieved full statehood, becoming the 18th state of India.
